Greek Mainland - Tolon
Tolon is a wonderful destination to combine relaxation, water sports and sightseeing. Located in the North east corner of the Peloponnese it retains its Greek traditions, charm and friendliness. It is an ideal destination for couples or families with active kids who want to enjoy unspoiled Greece.
Tolon has a narrow sandy beach and the sea is amazingly clear plus there is a lovely pebble beach about 20 minutes walk away. There are a range of water sports including windsurfing, dinghy sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, small motorboats and scuba diving. The sheltered bay makes this a safe destination for children to try out a new skill. You don’t need any previous experience to hire one of the small motor boats which come complete with cool box so you can head of to discover the coast line for a day.
A 25 minute bus ride takes you to the handsome historical town of Nafplion. The architecture is a mixture of Venetian, Turkish and Neoclassical with a busy waterfront, shaded squares and many fine tavernas. For the energetic, climb the 1000 steps to the fortifications towering above the town – once you regain your breath you will be rewarded with spectacular views across the coast line.
Sunday flights are available from Manchester May to September or from Gatwick through to October. Flight time is about 3 hours 30 mins and transfer from Kalamata airport to Tolon takes about two hours. The temperature ranges from around 25c in shoulder season to 32c in high season.
If you want to venture further afield there are day trip options to Athens, Corinth Canal and the Epidavros Theatre or boat trips to Hydra and Spetses. Adeona Travel can also arrange a twin centre holiday and would recommend combining a week in Tolon with a week in Stoupa on the South Peloponnese.

There is a choice of accommodation in small hotels or apartments but based on client reviews Adeona Travel recommends the Lido Apartments. This is a small attractive property, spacious and well furnished by Greek standard and very clean. There are studios, 1 bedroom apartments, 2 bedroom apartments and a detached villa – the larger units are ideal for families as they can accommodate up to 6 people.
The Lido Apartments are quietly situated with a large fresh water swimming pool and pool side furniture. The sandy beach is a two minutes walk. For the more active they offer free bicycles to explore along the quiet country roads the surrounding area of orange and lemon groves.
The Lido Apartments cost from around £650 for a week or £750 for two weeks in shoulder season and rise to around £850 for two weeks in high season. There are some savings available for early bookers and for larger families.
Thank you to Tabitha Smith and family for providing a glowing customer reference and addition resort information that we have used for this Destination Focus. The Lido Apartments have only 12 units and are likely to be in demand again in 2015 so book early.
